1. Terraço Italia

To understand the sheer vastness of Sao Paulo you have to see it from above. The best place to do so? The swanky Terraco Italia, a candlelit bar and restaurant with a live pianist.

2. Beco do Batman

‘Batman’s Alley’ has become a haven for graffiti lovers in the city since the 1980s. It’s now the biggest open-air street gallery in Sao Paulo and is a must-see for a selfie.

3. Ponte Estaiada Morumbi

For a seriously cool view of the city’s best architecture, go to the Brooklin neighborhood to the 138m high Estaiada Morumbi bridge. To take the best photographs, shoot at night when the bridge lights up in reds, greens and blues.

4. Metro Sé

The central station on Line 1 and Line 3 of the São Paulo Metro is where you’ll find some unusual views. The station itself is nicely designed with sleek curves and there’s great vantage points for capturing the madness of rush hour.

5. La Madone de São Paulo

Painted on the side of a building in downtown Sao Paulo, this eye catching mural of Santa Muerte, aka Our Lady of Holy Death. It is meant to remind passersby of their own mortality.

6. Livraria da Vila

A bibliophile’s happy place in Sao Paulo, this beloved bookstore is famous for its glowing doors that are made of glass bookshelves. Once inside, there’s also plenty of nooks and crannys to explore.

7. Edifício Copan

A landmark of Sao Paulo, this giant residential building (designed by Oscar Niemeyer) is in the shape of the tilde above the “a” in São Paulo. It even has its own postcode!

Top tip: When you arrive, go to block F at 10am or 3pm to queue for the free entry to the rooftop of the building.
