Last week Big 7 Travel’s community and our panel of judges named Texas the most Instagrammable state in America, which means that lots more people will be interested in visiting America’s second largest state.
One of the first things that most people can agree on is that burgers are one of the greatest foods invented, so it’s only right that we shared the 25 best in the Lone Star State. Big 7 Travel released the 50 best burgers in the USA last week; here’s where you’ll find the very best burgers in Texas…
The judging criteria:
- Finalists were selected from across the state of Texas
- Votes were cast in a poll of Big 7 readers, across our 1.5million community on social media and by a panel of food experts
- Online reviews, previous media coverage and notable blogs were also included in the overall rating
- The final list is subjective – if we’ve missed out on any must-try burger places across Texas, please do let us know!
Best Burgers Texas
The best place to come in the city if you want to drink from a really good selection of beer and have a stunningly good burger at the same time. The Hay Merchant grinds their beef fresh every single day, and you can tell from that very first delicious mouthful.
Order your burgers from an airstream and sit outside while drinking tiki-themed drinks on one of the nicest terraces in the city. Everything about this place oozes cool, but the burgers are the star of the show.
There are two important things to know about this burger joint. The first is that they put so many toppings and patty in the middle that they need to hollow out the buns. The second is that their shakes are legendary and you should never leave without ordering one!
Wallbanger’s prides themselves on making every single menu item fresh on the premises. If you have a huge appetite and want a serious treat, try the burger topped with mac and cheese. Two of life’s great pleasures.
The perfect place to hit up after work or on the weekend to hang out with friends. You’ll come for the burgers which are seriously delicious, but their vast selection of craft beers and a lovely atmosphere might keep you here a little longer…

Walking up to this joint and stepping inside is like taking a step back in time and we say that in the best possible way. Great burgers, super shakes, friendly attentive service and a setting that is brilliant for people watching as you eat.

Whisper it, but you’ll find plenty of people saying this is the best burger in the state. It’s got a stripped back setting where all the focus is pared back to just focusing on the burgers. They’re thick, juicy and cooked to perfection every single time.
This aptly named burger joint is just about as close to the border as you’ll get while still eating a burger in America. There’s a fantastic selection of burgers and it’s all about their original topping ideas as well as some quality beers.

The beef burger is the star of the show in this small national chain but they also do great veggie and chicken burgers if you want to change things up a bit. MOOYAH is well known for some of the best shakes in the business too, so don’t forget to order one.
Bernie’s have three spots to choose from, so whichever one you end up in you are not going to regret it. Their restaurants are themed around schools but they have nothing to learn when it comes to cooking amazing burgers, the great loaded fries on the side or their craft beer selection. Perfection.
Willy Burger is one for those of you who have a serious appetite and really feel like treating yourself. The retro style joint also does great shakes, dogs and even breakfast, but don’t look beyond the burger and onion rings. Divine.
They’ve five locations around the city which means you are never too far from one of their delicious stores. As well as burgers that are perfectly plump and juicy, Village Burgers Bar focuses on its great craft beer selection, making it a fun place to spend some time.
