The idea of a desk job is rapidly evolving – with amazingly fast Wifi and coworking space across the world, there’s now plenty of remote work options for people. With that in mind, we’ve come up with some jobs you can do from anywhere in the world.

Keep in mind that you more than likely can’t just pack up your bags and find remote work immediately… You will need to take a course or two, have some emergency savings (welcome to the freelance world!) and optimise your skills. But the rewards will make it all worthwhile.

Remote Work Options for Travellers

1. Writer

Remote freelance writing jobs are some of the best ways to make money and travel at the same time. Whether you’re a tech journalist or a travel writer, you’ll need a portfolio of some published work to get started. Find the niche you’re good at and ask to guest post on some blogs.

Upwork is also good for finding remote SEO and copywriting jobs.

2. Online accountant

Okay sure, you’ll need a qualification for this. But there’s plenty of online degrees in accounting! If you’re a dab hand with numbers then this is a job where there’s rarely a shortage of opportunities. All sorts of businesses need help with their taxes and books.

3. Remote IT jobs

If you have experience in programming, data analysis or something similar, it shouldn’t be too tough to find a remote work online. You will need to be somewhat knowledgable in this area before going remote, so keep that in mind.

4. Online English teacher

Some companies to teach English online for include VIPKID, Gogokid, QkidsEF Education First, DaDa, and Magic Ears. You’ll earn around $14-$22 an hour, but you might need to invest some time and money in a TEFL course first.

5. Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants perform all sorts of helpful tasks, from admin to technical work. You might be asked for your help with writing e-mails, making calls, scheduling appointments, posting on social media, arranging travel tickets and more. Have a look on Upwork for this.

6. Customer Support

An online customer support job typically includes answering customer questions and supporting customers through live chats, emails, or phone calls; providing general customer service; and sending customer feedback to the company you’re working for. 7. Your current job… but do it remotely!
