With the surrounding mountains and a gorgeous coastline, you are never too far from a great walking route when spending time in Dublin. It is one of those cities where you can quickly escape the hustle and bustle of urban living and breath some wonderful fresh air.

These walks are all within 30 minutes of the city centre at the very most; some can easily be reached by bike or public transport. From seaside strolls with views of Dublin Bay to mountain trails and cliff paths, Dublin has so much to explore outside (and within) the city boundaries.

The Best Dublin Walks: City Strolls & Cliff Paths

1. Sandymount Strand

A short 10 minute car ride or DART ride from the city centre and you are on what many locals consider the best beach in the city. Sweeping views of Dublin Bay and a huge beach when the tide are out make this one of the best Dublin walks.

2. Ticknock Mountain Trails

It will only take you about 30 minutes to reach a series of trails in the area that include the Hellfire Club and parts of the Wicklow Way. There is a walk for all levels in the area and views that will take your breath away.

3. Howth Cliff Walk

The pretty little fishing village of Howth is a must visit when in Dublin. The walk takes you on a loop and offers stunning scenery. You can then finish with some tasty fish and chips and a pint back in Howth.

4. South Wall Walk

The lighthouse juts out into Dublin Bay, with the walk starting very close to the city. Enjoy watching the ferries coming and going along with spectacular 360 degree views of Dublin Bay.

5. Donabate Beach

A short drive to the Northside of Dublin will bring you to one of the widest and most stunning beaches in Dublin. Come during the week and you might have the place to yourself as you lap up the wonderful fresh air.

6. City Centre Canal

The canals are a major feature in how Dublin is laid out. Starting in Dublin docks and walking up to portobello is the perfect way to slowly amble while enjoying the city. Stop for coffee or bring a book and enjoy these wonderful peaceful spots at the weekend.

7. Killiney Hill Walk

This is the best walk if you want a small amount of effort with the maximum amount of view when you reach the destination. The view on the hill looking south on a clear day is utterly spectacular.
