Americans Allowed Entry to Costa Rica – No Test or Quarantine Required

Are you itching for an escape after this bizarre year? Costa Rica may be the answer. The Central American country which has been regularly ranked on happiest countries in the world surveys has officially opened its borders to the United States. Meaning Americans can now travel to Costa Rica without the requirement of quarantine or even a COVID test.

Costa Rica Allowing Americans Entry – No COVID Test or Quarantine Required

Costa Rica first closed its borders back on March 18 to anyone unable to complete a 14-day quarantine. From August 19 the country became more lax by allowing citizens in from select regions such as the EU, UK, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and more. As of September, 1 CR granted US citizens from select states entry but not without proof of residency for said state and a negative PCR test. However, beginning November 1, Americans can now enter with just an online health form, proof of health insurance and a quick temp check. That means no PCR tests or quarantine for arriving US guests.

As far as health insurance is concerned, visitors can provide proof of coverage from their own provider. For these policies, tourists must show that their insurance company will cover any instances in Costa Rica; will cover at least $50,000 in medical expenses should they contract COVID-19 while in Costa Rica; and will cover at least $2,000 in lodging for any issues related to the pandemic.

Travellers Can Expect a Safe Trip According to Minister of Tourism

Gustavo Segura, Costa Rica’s minister of tourism, says travellers can expect to see health and safety measures implemented throughout the country while visiting. He just asks guests “to practice tourism responsibly, following all the precautionary measures that have been recommended to avoid contagion.”

The nation was recently recognized by the World Travel & Tourism Council through its “Safe Travels” stamp.

In a pre-COVID world, Costa Rica drew nearly 2 million tourists annually. The tiny nation holds a whopping 5% of the world’s biodiversity, with some of the most vibrant and unique plants and species on Earth. Nature lovers will swoon over the island’s five active volcanoes. And history buffs will appreciate the pre-Columbian ruins such as Guayabo. If you are planning to visit, please keep safety mind to lessen the spread of the virus.

As of November 4, Costa Rica has dealt with 112,120 Coronavirus cases and 1,419 deaths. As COVID-19 continues to evolve, please remember double-check with your government guidelines before travel.
