Norway is famous for its scenery. The Vøringsfossen Waterfall has long been one of the most visited tourist attractions in the country. Now, it’s set to be even more popular… All thanks to a stunning new bridge that ‘floats’ high above the cascading waters.
With a a free fall of 145 metres and a total fall of 182 metres, this waterfall is pretty impressive. Vøringsfossen is in the Hardangerfjord region of Norway, which is home to the country’s largest national park and fjords, glaciers, mountains, and waterfalls.
While people have been coming here for hundreds of years (stone steps were built in the 1780s to make the journey to the waterfall easier), the latest project is on a new level. Literally. From now on, visitors can cross the waterfall on a stair bridge at a lofty height.
The New Bridge Across Vøringsfossen is Incredible
The new bridge has 99 steps and allows you to look right over the waterfall itself. With a height of 50 meters above the waterfall, it offers a fantastic view.

It fits in with the natural landscape and seamlessly blends with the valley gorge.
The bridge is just one of several projects that aim to further highlight the bridge as a tourist attraction in Norway.
The expansion of the Vøringsfossen attraction will take place in several stages. The first construction phase was completed in 2018. This included new paths, viewing platforms, parking spaces and a service building below the Hotel Fossli. The new stair bridge marks the end of the second phase. Further construction will see the final completion of the extensive Vøringsfossen site in 2023 which includes further lookout points and a new toilet building.
