7 World Famous Landmarks Closed In Coronavirus Lockdowns

The coronavirus is spreading all across the world, with most counties now imposing some sort of lockdown and social distancing measures. As small businesses lose out on visitors, so too do some of the most iconic landmarks around the world. Hundreds of landmarks are closed due to coronavirus outbreak.

Here’s just seven places that are no longer open to the public as of now…

1. Eiffel Tower – Paris, France

Alongside other landmarks in Paris, the Eiffel Tower is under visitor lockdown.  It shut on March 13th and will close for an ‘indefinite’ amount of time.

2. Taj Mahal – Agra, India

India’s most popular attraction also shut to the public. All the ticketed monuments and all other museums in India will also close until March 31st, 2020.

3. The Colosseum – Rome, Italy

With all of Italy under quarantine, its attractions are no longer open. The Colosseum is will close until April 3rd, as will Piazza del Duomo in Milan and St Mark’s Square in Venice.

4. Musée du Louvre – Paris, France

The Musée du Louvre, Tuileries Garden and Cour Carrée will remain closed until further notice.

5. Mecca’s Grand Mosque – Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia bans prayers inside and outside the walls of the two mosques in Mecca and Medina.

6. The Hagia Sophia – Istanbul, Turkey

While Turkish museums and cultural sites are currently closed, you can enjoy virtual tours online. It’s not clear when the Hagia Sophia will reopen.

7. Disneyland – California, USA

Fun’s over folks: Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park have shut until 31st March.
