Chicken Goujons recipe

Chicken Goujons With Greek Yoghurt & Coriander Dip

Chicken goujons (those tasty strips of breaded chicken) have many different names around the world, one thing in common: when they’re homemade properly, they are absolutely delicious. Our recipe uses panko breadcrumbs (regular breadcrumbs will also work) for that extra crunchy bite.

This is the latest in our series of tasty recipes that feature just 7 simple ingredients. They are all super tasty and can be made by people of any cooking ability.

The fact that we shallow fry them instead of deep frying and use yoghurt in the dip makes them so much healthier than some versions. If you want to take it to another level, you could even bake them for an oil-free recipe. This is a fantastic dish to cook in bulk and pop into the freezer, plus kids love them too!

Chicken Goujons: Ingredients

  • Flour
  • Chicken fillets
  • Eggs
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Lemon
  • Yoghurt
  • Coriander

The main job is to bread the chicken fillets. The fillet is the small part of the chicken, and most supermarkets and butchers sell them separately to the chicken breasts. Lay out the four, eggs and breadcrumbs onto 3 separate plates.

Start by dunking the chicken into the flour. Shake off any excess.

Next, dunk it into the eggs, which you should have whisked together.

Finally, roll the chicken fillet in the breadcrumbs. They should coat it perfectly. Roll around until it is perfectly evenly coated in breadcrumbs. Repeat this process with all the chicken fillets.

You can either deep fry (the least healthy option), shallow fry (like we have done) or even bake in the oven (most healthy option). To shallow fry, heat a medium sized pan with some oil and cook the fillets gently for about 3 minutes on each side.

While the chicken is cooking you can make the simple and healthy sauce. You do this by chopping up the coriander.

Add the juice of a lemon to the plain yoghurt along with some black pepper. It really is that simple!

The chicken goujons should be perfectly golden on the outside when cooked. By all means cut one open to make sure the meat is perfectly white through to the centre.
