1. Pico Bonito National Park
Pico Bonito National Park is the most famous National Park in Honduras – it’s absolutely gorgeous.
There’s three different entrances to the park, but by far the best way to visit is to get a ferry to Cangrejal River Valley. From here, you enter the park by crossing a river with a swinging rope bridge. Bring the camera, this is an Indiana Jones-style Honduras Instagram moment.

2. Copan Ruins
The Maya ruins of Copan are one of the most spectacular cities of this ancient civilisation.
The ball court is the second largest in Central America and you can also walk underground in two tunnels, where even older temples once stood.

3. Lago de Yojoa
A hidden oasis, Lago de Yojoa is surrounded by volcanoes and has a picturesque boardwalk. An ideal place to watch the sunset and just breathe.
The area gets busy at weekends as it’s a popular day trip for water sports, so come during the week to have the lake all to yourself.

4. Trujillo
A sleepy Caribbean town, Trujillo is still “off-the-beaten-track” as a holiday destination. It has incredible sandy beaches, colourful buildings in the town and a laid-back vibe you won’t find anywhere else in Honduras.

5. The Moskitia
The Moskitia (basically Central America’s Amazon), is a vast area of rainforest where the local Moskito people still live. The region is pure wilderness and an exciting place for a jungle adventure.

6. Cayos Cochinos
The Cayos Cochinos are a pretty group of small islands that include Cayo Menor and Cayo Grande. Tourists can only visit Cayo Grande, which has scenic fishing villages and coral reefs.

7. Bay Islands
These three paradise islands are popular diving and snorkeling spots. The coral reefs are full of fish, coral, sponges, rays, sea turtles and even whale sharks.
Roatán is the biggest of the islands and has lots to do – jungle treks, sloth spotting and a local rum tasting factory. Spend a few days here and just relax.
