With the world in the grips of the Coronavirus, cities across the globe are on total lockdown, and others are asking their residents to consider self-isolation. Either way, millions of people around the world are stuck inside. Whether you are in a quarantined area, choosing to self-isolate or just opting to go out less, here are seven things to do in self-isolation.
Things To Do While In Self Isolation
1. Spring Clean
With so many people cooped up inside, it’s easy to get a little stir crazy and need something to keep your hands busy. Studies have shown that cleaning can reduce stress and anxiety levels along with riding the space of dust and germs. So put on some good tunes, pull out the sponges and get some spring cleaning done.
2. Cook Something!
There’s no better time than now to release some creative energy on new recipes. We’ve started a new recipe series aimed at cooking at home during self-isolation. Hearty pastas, DIY brunch dishes so you can enjoy the weekend without leaving the house and lots of delicious tinned food recipes. Cooking up tasty food not only keeps you busy, but it is also great for your mental and physical health.
3. Binge Your Fave Netflix Shows
Now is the time to finally catch up on your favourite TV shows and Netflix documentaries. Whether you want to watch award-winning Chef’s Table, psychological thriller Russian Doll or comical Bojack Horseman – Netflix has your covered. Use this time to relax and unwind with some quality entertainment to help ease the stress being cooped up inside.
4. Do That Thing You’ve Been Meaning To Do
Many of us constantly have something in the back of our mind that we are working toward. Maybe you want to write a novel, perhaps you’ve been planning to take one of those trendy MasterClasses on photography, maybe you’ve meant to update your resume so you can work toward your dream job. Whatever it may be, now is the time to work toward your personal goal.
5. Video Chat With Your Friends Or Loved Ones
Use Skype, FaceTime or Facebook video chat to spend quality time with your loved ones. Missing your girlfriends? Plan a video chat where each one of you will crack open a bottle of wine together. Haven’t seen mom and dad in a while? Facetime them while you eat dinner. It’s not the real thing, but it comes close.
6. Create Your Own Spa Experience
Self-care days, especially in times of heightened stress, are vital to good mental health. Run yourself a warm bath, pop on your favourite tunes and dedicate a day to yourself. We recommend making your favourite meal with what you have on hand, dedicated time to something you enjoy, such as reading or playing an instrument, light meditation and early bedtime.
7. Get Moving
The most common complaint about being stuck inside is that of course, you’d rather be outside. With so many cities on complete lockdown, many people are not able to go out for afternoon walks or get adequate physical exercise. Movement is vital to optimal physical and mental health, so we recommend doing some at-home workouts. Search Youtube for thousands of at-home workouts to suit every taste or just turn on some music and get dancing.
