Always wanted to do an iconic American road trip? Well, now you can see which routes are actually worth driving. The top 50 road trips USA have been released, according to a new study from Geotab.
The all-American road trip has been a great way to explore the country since the early 1900s, with certain routes becoming iconic vacations for seeing landmarks, visiting cities, and simply enjoying the open road.
Geotab scored each route based on attractions available, accommodations nearby, places to eat, the road traffic, and how many days they take to drive.
Three routes in the Rocky Mountains were among the top 10 – Yellowstone and the Tetons, Mesa Verde and San Juan Mountains and Colorado’s Rockies. Looks like people can’t resist those mountain views…
These are the Top 10 road trips USA:
1. Monument Valley Trails (5 Days)
Awe-inspiring views of the rock formations of Monument Valley, Valley of the Gods and the Natural Bridges National Monument are enough to make this road trip an all-time classic.
2. Yellowstone and the Tetons (7 Days)
Roadtrippers can have amazing views of geysers, spot wild animals and take in all the natural beauty that Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks have to offer.
3. Mesa Verde and San Juan Mountains (7 Days)
This trip starts off with an outdoor adventure in Mesa Verde National Park and takes a historical slant as you drive towards the old mining towns of Southern Colorado.
4. Along the Missouri River (7 Days)
Starting at the towering Gateway Arch in St. Louis, there’s a chance to get a feel for the music scene in Kansas City and Omaha, before discovering North Dakota’s cultural history in towns such as Washburn and Stanton, and finishing in Williston.

7. Colorado’s Rockies (5 Days)
Cruise through mind-boggling peaks as this iconic trip takes you from Denver into Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. A journey to rival the Swiss Alps.
8. Grand Canyon Road Trip (5 Days)
This famous route passes through America’s most recognised landmark – the Grand Canyon. Drive through mining and lumber towns of Arizona and arrive at the red rock desert.
9. Hells Canyon Scenic Byway (3 Days)
This trip’s horizons are dominated by the Wallowa Mountains, known as the “Alps of Oregon”, with 19 peaks above 9,000 feet.
10. Bryce & Zion National Parks (6 Days)
Explore not one but two national parks – Bryce and Zion – in this desert road trip through Southern Utah with canyon peaks and mountain valleys.
As for the worst road trip in the USA? That unlucky honour goes to the Blues Cruise, which starts in Memphis and goes on down to Mississippi.
