1. Swim with Manatees – Crystal River
Manatees are precious creatures known as the sea cow and reside in the warm Florida waterways. Seeing a manatee is a treat, and you can go swimming with them in Crystal River. This trip is exciting for the whole family as you can pet and learn about the manatee.
2. Walk America’s Oldest City – St. Augustine
St. Augustine is known as America’s oldest city with being established in 1565 and is only a couple of hours away from Orlando. For history buffs, check out Castillo de San Marcos, the fort the Spanish built along Matanzas Bay in the Old City. After, visit the Lightner Museum to see how the city grew during the Victorian era before exploring the city’s shops and restaurants.
3. Watch a NASCAR Race – Daytona Beach
For those visiting Orlando in February, race over to Daytona Beach to watch NASCAR’s Daytona 500. Sports and car fans alike will love going on tours at the Daytona International Speedway and visit the NASCAR Archives Center to see artefacts including Sir Malcolm Campbell’s Bluebird III.
4. Go to a College Football Game – Gainesville
In the South, college football is a religion. And Gainesville, Florida is home to the University of Florida Gators. Sports fans will love to check out an SEC game during the fall season, especially against rivals Florida State. For a bite to eat after the game, check out the Paramount Grill for fine dining or Adam’s Rib Company for the barbeque.
5. See the Bok Tower Gardens – Lake Wales
The enchanting Bok Tower Gardens are located in Lake Wales, Florida, less than two hours south of Orlando. The beautiful Gardens houses over 125 kinds of birds as well as the gopher tortoise and eastern indigo snake.
6. Head to the Beach – Miami
Visit Miami’s famed beaches like 21st–45th Street Beach which is just off the boardwalk. After enjoying a day of sun and surf, head inside for dinner at Versailles for Cuban food and go dancing at Ball & Chain.
7. Check out the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art – Winter Park
