Travelling around Vietnam? A stop-off in the beautiful beachside city of Danang is a must. It’s just 40 minutes from Hoi An, making it an ideal place to spend a few days. Once you’ve had your fill of the city beach vibe, make your way to the ancient town of Hoi An. If you’re wondering how to get from Da Nang to Hoi An, you’ve a few easy options…
Keep in mind that Hoi An has no airport, so if you’re planning to fly into here then you will arrive at Da Nang airport!
How To Get From Da Nang to Hoi An
1. Take the Public Bus
There’s a direct bus line between Da Nang and Hoi An (Bus #1) which costs just 30,000 VND ($1.30 USD). This bus is the cheapest travel option, but it will take a bit longer to get to Hoi An – about 60 minutes. Bus services start at 5.30am and stop at 6pm, departing every 20 minutes.
The bus station is just 10-minutes from the train station, but it’s 3km from the airport, so keep that in mind if you’re flying in here.
2. Get a Grab Car or Motorbike Taxi
The Asian version of Uber, Grab is the easiest way to book a car taxi or motorbike taxi. Wherever you are, simple go onto to the app and input your location. It’s cheaper than a private taxi that you would hail on the street and you can also pay via your credit or debit card.
3. Book in Advance with Bookaway
Use Bookaway to reserve your tickets in advance for a number of transport options, including standard buses and VIP buses. Not only can you be assured that you have a guaranteed ticket, you can also make use of the handy filters for finding the best transport option.
Can’t live without air conditioning? Check. Absolutely need to have a toilet on board? You can choose the exact features you need your transport option to have.
4. Rent a Motorbike
This is a good option if you’re a solo traveller with just a backpack, but keep in mind you will likely have to either leave a cash deposit or your passport as security for the bike, and return to Da Nang to collect it and leave back the bike. You can rent a motorbike from many places in Da Nang city and the drive from here to Hoi An is just an hour away on the bike.
5. Take a Minivan
If you’re with a group of friends (about 10 people), then renting a minivan for your whole group is a safe, affordable option. Often, they end up being just about the same price as a standard bus ticket, but you’ve got the advantage of only being with people you know.
I’m planning a trip in a couple of weeks and never rode on the bus before and plan to take the greyhound bus since it’s cheaper than flying.
