2. Arashiyama

Probably the second most important sightseeing sight in Kyoto district, this stunning forest is home to beautiful straight bamboo trees and plenty of monkeys. A great place to escape the city.

3. Gion

Gion is the Geisha district of Kyoto. You’ll often spot the Geisha ladies on the wooden Tatsumi or in high end restaurants. A truly unique sight to see, although do be respectful of the culture when taking snaps.

4. Nishiki Market

Nothing immerses you into Japanese life more than visiting a market. This one is busy with lively traders and food in all shapes and sizes. A wander around here is will awaken your senses and you’ll end up with some cracking Kyoto Instagram snaps.

5. Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine

We’d be stunned if this iconic shrine entrance hasn’t already popped up on your Instagram feed at some stage. Made up of 1,000 red pillars, it is consistently voted one of the top places to visit in Japan.

6. Toji

One of the most famous and prettiest Buddhist temples in the city. Its pagoda stretches high to five stories; nestled into the surrounding trees it is as pretty as an oil painting.

7. Kinkakuji Temple

This is one of the best known tourist destinations in Japan. Incredibly ornate with its brilliantly gold exterior set in the lush forest. It does get busy, so arrive either early or late to get a perfect Instagram snap.
