The Most Beautiful Islands In Thailand
How do these rankings work?
1. Koh Tao
This peaceful island in the Gulf of Thailand has plenty of sheltered bays, but Tanot is the most beautiful. It’s uncrowded with warm, blue water and soft sand.
Snorkelling is excellent here, with a great variety of coral and some fairly large fish that you’ll see as soon as you dip your toes into the water. While there’s endless amazing Thai islands to take your pick from, Koh Tao ticks all the boxes.
2. Koh Samui
Samui is a stunning island that attracts tourists from all over the world with its warm weather, pristine beaches and friendly locals. One trip here and you’ll easily fall in love with the place. Our tip? Veer away from the backpacker area of Chaweng and explore prettier parts of the island, such as Bophut Fisherman’s Village and Lamai.
3. Koh Pha Ngan
Koh Pha Ngan is famous for its full moon parties at Haad Rin’s Sunrise Beach, when thousands of travellers descend on the shores to party the night away with cocktails and glo-sticks. There’s solid party action here every night of the week, with beach bars, hippy hostels and soft white sand that’s made for dancing on as the sun sets.
4. Koh Chang
There’s endless scenic beaches on the third largest island in Thailand, all with amazing views along the length of the beach and south, towards the small islands that lie off the west coast of Koh Chang. The island really comes alive in the evening, with fire dancers, music and buzzing beach bars.
5. Phuket
Phuket is the place to come for glitzy resorts, celebrity chef restaurants, cocktail bars and all-round luxury. There’s also a vibrant backpacker area with cheaper bars, but this island is a popular honeymoon spot for a reason. Phuket has some of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand and is also a perfect base for further exploring places such as Koh Phi Phi and scuba diving spots.
6. Similan Islands
The Similan Islands are well known as one of the best places for scuba diving in Thailand. The best way to dive in the Similan Islands is from a liveaboard boat; most trips leave from Khao Lak, but there are departures from Ranong and Phuket too. You’ll see manta rays and whale sharks as you explore around the nine islands.
You can’t stay here, but it’s a wonderful day trip.
7. Koh Lipe
This amazing island is in Tarutao National Marine Park, in the South Andaman Sea, and is famous for its white sandy beaches and turquoise blue waters. Koh Lipe is fast becoming known as one of the best islands in Thailand. There’s cute bars and restaurants and it’s a great base for snorkelling and scuba diving.
