Saturday

Start early with your full day in Key West by going to Bagatelle for brunch. Pair the Maine lobster benedict with Kim’s Watermelon Breeze for a deliciously leisurely start to the day. Then head out early to Lazy Dog to go kayaking underneath the mangrove trees. So get ready for the breathtaking and relaxing experience among the unusual ecosystem. Visit the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory and observe the beautiful varieties of butterflies, birds, and flora.

For lunch, go to El Sibony for some truly delicious Cuban food like the skirt steak with grilled shrimp. Head to Papa’s Pilar Rum, inspired by author Ernest Hemingway, to watch and learn how rum is made. And you’ll taste while you’re there, naturally. Next, visit what is known as Harry S. Truman’s Little White House. It was later used often by Truman as his winter home during his presidency, but was originally built in 1890 as naval officers’ housing. So now you can learn about the post-WWII era through this museum.

Go shopping before dinner. Check out places like indie bookstore Key West Island Books, unique boutique Bésame Mucho, and hot sauce shop Peppers of Key West. After, dine at Bien for their the Caribbean and Latin food. You can’t go wrong with their Caribbean roast dinner. Long after the sun has set, relax with a key lime martini at Virgilio’s.
