This year’s pandemic has left many around the world itching for adventure. If you fancy yourself bold enough to bolt off on an adventure going literally anywhere, the Mystery Break program recently unveiled by Air New Zealand has something in store.
Air New Zealand Offering “Mystery Breaks” to Adventurous Travellers
The Mystery Break program promises to give travellers an experience of a lifetime…without knowing the destination. It goes like this. The airline currently has routes to 20 destinations throughout New Zealand. Mystery Break travellers will pay a flat fee from one of three tiers, select their dates and find out their destination just two days before travel. Travellers have the option to select one destination they don’t wish to visit – and the rest is all left to chance.
Once guests arrive at their mystery destination, they have a voucher for an Avis rental car or an airport transfer that will take them to their Accor Hotel. The packages range between two to three nights and include return flights/baggage along with the initial flight, transfer and hotel stay.
It comes at a fair price, too. The mystery deals start at just NZ $599 (393 USD) a piece. Guests looking to book the ultimate luxury stay should take a look at their top tier Luxury Mystery Break. It starts at NZ $1629 (USD $1070) and includes a stay a 5-star hotel with breakfast and dinner included. Guests will also have access to a luxury Avis rental to explore the area for the entire stay.
Air New Zealand’s Mystery Break innovation comes at a time when so many have been cooped up inside most of the year and are now eager to travel literally anywhere. While the Land of the Long White Cloud is still closed to most international tourists, domestic travel is unrestricted.
New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern Leading the Way in Coronavirus Response
New Zealand has led the way in COVID response and received international plaudits this year because of it. Thanks to their hard action early on, the island nation’s response is considered the best in the world. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern locked the country down early on with strict guidelines. She prepared the nation for the massive change with a four-stage alert system.
New Zealand made headlines in August when they went a whopping 100 days without a community virus transmission. However, PM Ardern maintains that their success should not be taken for granted.
“A resurgence of the virus is not our only worry, a resurgence of complacency is right up there too,” Ardern said.
As of October 22, the entire country has remained under 2,000 total cases and 25 deaths.
