Did you know that Puerto Rico is the third largest Caribbean island and an unincorporated U.S. territory? Made of the main island and several smaller islands, it’s a pretty beautiful place to spend some time

Although the island was ravaged by a hurricane in late 2017 they have been rebuilding and tourists are returning to support the economy – there’s plenty of incredible things to see here.

1. Bahía Bioluminiscente

This is one of the most amazing natural sites in the world, as billions of tiny flies (dinoflagellates) make the water turn fluorescent blue. You can swim safely in the water and everything looks like something out of a fantasy movie.

2. Flamenco Beach

If there is one thing that there is no shortage of in Puerto Rico, it is stunning beaches. This is probably the prettiest of them all. Impossibly beautiful and a great pit stop for some R&R and a little beach photoshoot.

3. Castillo de San Cristóbal

Castillo de San Cristobal is an ancient port that was built by the Spanish when they first conquered to protect San Juan. The perfect place to come in the evening to enjoy the sunset.

4. El Yunque National Forest

Once you get inland, the terrain changes to dense rainforest. This is the best area on the island to explore, with marked trails and stunning fauna for those perfect Instagram photos.

5. Cabo Rojo Lighthouse

The lighthouse is perched at the top of steep cliffs and is absolutely picture-perfect. It has been standing proudly and is still in great condition since it was built way back in 1882.

6. Cueva Ventana

Climb up through the dense jungle (with a tour guide!) and you’ll arrive in one of the most Instagrammable spots in the world. Take a picture standing in the cave with your back to the camera looking out on the lush surroundings.

7. Santurce Street Art

The city of San Juan is a bustling port city with lots of life around every corner. This area in particular has gorgeous street art and murals that will make for an enviable Instagram shot.
