2. Mercado de San Miguel

A must-see when in Madrid, this historic covered market is a culinary hotspot.

From the best Iberian ham to the freshest seafood, you’ll find seriously tasty tapas here. Wander around the 20+ stalls with an Aperol Spritz in hand and admire the architecture.

A jungle tropicana restaurant that’s peak Madrid Instagram. Habanera has leafy palm-patterned wallpaper, lush plants, and flower-patterned chairs.

4. Crystal Palace in Retiro Park

The Glass Palace in Retiro is one of the best examples of iron architecture in Madrid. It was originally designed as a gigantic greenhouse for tropical plants but now houses exhibitions.

One of the hippest neighbourhoods in Madrid, Malasaña is bursting with cute restaurants, bars and vintage stores.

A beautiful old cafe that will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Freshly baked cakes and strong coffee go perfectly with the antique-y decor.

7. Platea Market

This gourmet food hall is an Instagrammer’s paradise. There’s four floors of food and cocktail bars, with live DJs and trapeze artists.

It used to be a theatre so it looks incredibly cool and still has a lot of the original features. You can feast on casual tapas or dine in the Michelin-star restaurant – it’s up to you. Just don’t forget to take those Instas.
