By the time March rolls around, most people are ready for their first vacation of the year. You’ve recovered, both emotionally and financially, from the holidays and the weather’s finally starting to pick back up. In short, the universe’s trying to tell you that it’s time to #TreatYoSelf.
March is also often the cheapest time to travel to numerous destinations all over the world. Airlines and hotels are starting to feel the post-holiday hit and they’re looking to entice people to visit just before the spring break and summer wave of travellers begin.
Surely all this talk of vacationing on some faraway exotic island or even in a charming city close to home has got you feeling some anxious FOMO vibes. Don’t miss out, just book a ticket. Here’s a list of the seven cheapest places to travel in March 2020 to help you narrow down some spots.
Cheapest Places To Travel In March 2020
1. San Francisco, California
The best time to fly to San Francisco? March. As one of the cheapest places to travel in March 2020, San Francisco, and the entire Bay Area welcomes you with so much to see and do. Be sure to check out the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Haight-Ashbury and the colourful Chinatown. They’re all brimming with great restaurants, the perfect Instagram photo-op, or a quaint little Airbnb to call home base.
2. Havana, Cuba
Between February and April, there’s a sweet spot called March, and it’s one of the cheapest times to travel to Havana. December and April seem to be the most expensive times to fly to Cuba’s capital city. In March, however, you can enjoy basking in the spring sun as you sip Cuba Libres and trace Hemingway’s drunken footsteps all over town. You simply have to head to Cuba to enjoy this paradise for yourself.
3. Cuzco, Peru
While Cuzco is a bit of a faraway destination for most travellers outside of South America (heck, even the ones living in South America, too), the cheapest time to travel to this famous Peruvian city is in March. You’ll see about a 4% drop in flight prices, with flights averaging out at less than $750 roundtrip. For a chance to explore the Sacred Valley and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, that’s not bad at all.
4. Madrid, Spain
Okay, so the actual cheapest time to fly to Madrid is in October. But, due to special travel deals, it’s currently one of the cheapest places to travel in March 2020. Flights in March are usually only about $50 more expensive than the absolute cheapest anyway. This year, however, you’ll wanna snag a hot ticket and get your butt on over to Spain’s capital city. The weather should be just warm enough for a stroll in El Retiro and some tapas on a rooftop terrace.
5. Cairo, Egypt
The cheapest month to fly to Egypt is in February, followed very closely by March. And, while flying to Africa is usually never cheap for any savvy traveller, you’ll find that Cairo is a budget traveller’s paradise. According to our research, accommodations seem to be less expensive in March. And, not only are the crowds significantly smaller at top tourist attractions, but the weather is sunny and balmy without being too blisteringly hot. Gaze in awe and wonder at the iconic ancient pyramids without too many other tourists.
6. Melbourne, Australia
Like Egypt, travelling to Australia is usually never a cheap affair. However, if it’s on your bucket list of travel destinations for 2020, you’ll be pleased to know that flying to Melbourne is cheapest in March. Flights drop about 6% in price with average plane tickets costing about $860 (compared to nearly $1,700 during peak season). If you can buy your tickets far enough in advance, you’ll be well on your way to an affordable Aussie adventure this spring.
7. Toronto, Canada
If you don’t mind braving a bit of some colder weather, Toronto is actually one of the cheapest places to travel in March 2020. Plane tickets will cost you nearly half of what they will if you fly during peak season, which is about August or September. For under $200 you can snag a seat on a flight straight to Canada’s coolest city. Brave the CN Tower EdgeWalk, check out exciting city markets or catch a hockey game.
