2.  Jicamarca Ionospheric Radio Observatory

Science nut? Even if you’re not, you’ll surely be in awe at this. 1,000s of antennae that fill a desert valley at the Jicamarca Ionospheric Radio Observatory (JRO).

It’s essentially a gigantic radar that measures the top layer of the earth’s atmosphere. You don’t see sights like this every day!

3.  Picarones Mary in Parque Kennedy

Peru’s favourite late night snack are best eaten freshly friend from one of the local vendors in Parque Kennedy.

Made from squash and sweet potato and doused in a sugar syrup, they’re very tasty. Go to Mary’s red cart for an authentic Peruvian food Insta.

4.  Casa Republica

Casa Republica is a 1920s boutique hotel modelled in the style of the glory days of Peru’s Republican era. Just look at the mansion!

Rooms have beautiful high ceilings, chic decor and the hotel is fast becoming the coolest place to stay in the city. Plus, guests get free bikes to explore the Barranco neighbourhood.

5.  Mercado de Brujas

Want an unusual Lima Instagram photo? Otherwise known as ‘the Witches Market’, this is a quirky market selling traditional folk medicine.

You can buy python snake skins, black candles for curses and frog smoothies. You’ll find it in the Gamarra Market and just outside the Gamarra train station.

6.  Plaza Mayor

This scenic square in the historic centre contains some of the most recognised attractions in Lima.

It’s a majestic square that’s also a UNESCO heritage site and dates back to 1535. Grab a coffee and just watch people pass by.

7.  Miraflores Boardwalk

Miraflores is an upmarket area in Lima with green parks, pretty cafes and jagged cliffs looking out at the Pacific Ocean.

Sunsets are SO insane here, so arrive early to grab your spot for the best view.
