2. Blue Mosque

Sultanahmet Camii (Blue Mosque) is a must-see for any visitor to Turkey. It still functions as a working mosque where men go to pray.

Go inside to see the 20,000 handmade ceramic Iznik tiles that give the mosque its name.

3. Rainbow Stairs

Located on Sali Pazari Yokusu, the iconic rainbow stairs were painted by retired engineer Huseyin Cetinel in 2013 to “make people smile”.

5. Hagia Sophia

An enormous 1,480-year-old marvel in the heart of Istanbul. Hagia Sophia was built as a Christian Orthodox cathedral and then became a museum in the 1930s.

7. Balat

The Fener-Balat quarter is a traditional Jewish neighbourhood with colourful houses. This is one of the city’s coolest districts to walk around and take photos.

Micro-roaster coffee stores and vintage shops are in between ancient churches and the picturesque facades of the pastel houses are super Instagrammable. See?
